Statement of Intention
- The office of United Campus Ministry serves the Adams State College community by offering a religious presence on campus. The office strives to provide interested college personnel with the opportunities and resources for faith development, spiritual direction, community service and worship within a collegiate setting. The office respects all individuals’ religion preference and offers the aforementioned services only to those who seek them.
Unifying Principles:
- Unifying Principles: The office of United Campus Ministry shall foster an interfaith spirit and shall respect the religious beliefs of all people that participate in its programs.
- United Campus Ministry, recognizing its placement within an institution of higher learning, regards academic freedom and the pursuit of truth as valuable means to human development and will strive to uphold these means in all its endeavors.
- The office of United Campus Ministry views ministry as providing services and resources that invite students, faculty and staff toward spiritual growth and wholeness. The intention of this office is to honor the personal rights and privacy of individuals within the college setting and will thereby offer its services by invitation.
- The office of United Campus Ministry shall offer activities and programs such as retreats, Bible study, forums, worship and prayer as well as educational events in faith development, including current issues and raising consciousness.
Procedural Guidelines
- The office of United Campus Ministry falls under the direction of the college Center director and his/her staff. In keeping with the college’s mandate of separation of church and state no financial support to the office of United Campus Ministry or its founding religious groups will be provided by the College Center; all funding must be provided by the groups themselves.
- The office of United Campus Ministry shall be governed by a board including representatives of the existing religious bodies, the College Center director, college personnel and students. The membership is open to all spiritual groups willing to comply with the above guidelines. Spiritual groups that do not wish to be associated with United Campus Ministry should request recognition through the Associated Students and Faculty (AS&F). The governing board of United Campus Ministry shall meet no less that once a year and shall at that time approve the coordination and staffing of the office.
